Sermon outline for Sunday, August 1, 2010  - Pastor Richard C. Klueg

When Survival Cannot Be Expected

Luke 11:5-8

Navy Task Force Taffy 3 and "the definite partiality of Almighty God."

Ever been blindsided by a crisis?

The Unexpected Guest

a friend of mine on a journey has just come to me

Unusual

Unavoidable

Your unexpected guest ...

The Desperate Host

Friend, lend me three loaves of bread

"Why me?"

"Not Cool!"

"What now?"

  • It's embarrassing
  • It's an imposition
  • It's uncertain

The Helpful Friend

Parable: The worst case scenario

Don't bother me ...

... yet because of the man's boldness

Reality: The best case scenario

He cares for you  1 Peter 5:7

boldness (embarrassed, desperate insistence)   Psalm 103:13; Psalm 31:7

he will get up   Psalm 44:23; Psalm 78:65

He had three loaves to give

When "survival cannot be expected,"
pray for "the definite partiality of Almighty God."
