Volunteers are working hard to get the rented facilities on Main Street, Gloversville, ready for the ministry "Change of One." We had a great time today getting a lot accomplished. Here is a quick "walk through" by Donn and Cyndie Truax.
I just finished reading a biography of Frederick Douglass (the escaped slave who became a great anti-slavery leader and orator). The following quote describes the dark days of the years before the Civil War, and reminds me of our struggle against abortion and other social evils that seem so entrenched:
"Of these events the Dred Scott decision was the most disheartening. Douglass was not proof against the universal gloom, and began to feel that there was little hope of the peaceful solution of the question of slavery. It was in one of these darker moments that old Sojourner Truth, whose face appeared in so many anti-slavery gatherings, put her famous question, which breathed a sublime and childlike faith in God, even when his hand seemed heaviest on her people: 'Frederick,' she asked, 'is God dead?' The orator paused impressively, and then thundered in a voice that thrilled his audience with prophetic intimations, 'No, God is not dead; and therefore it is that slavery must end in blood!'
It was Thomas Jefferson who remarked, regarding the existence of slavery in our country,Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever . . . ."
Sojourner Truth was correct that God is not dead. Douglass and Jefferson were correct that the justice of the living God brings fearful consequences on sinful nations. God's people need to pray for mercy, preach God's Word, and practice rightdousness and justice.
We had a wonderful time at BCON Corner giving special recognition to graduating seniors. Thanks to Megan and all who helped putting on this great event. The meal and program were great, spirits were happy, and we are very proud of these grads. May they remember to always live by the challenge given from the Word: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6
